On a hot Monday night in July over 1,100 VOICE leaders from 45 different religious institutions assembled for a public action with Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and the Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Jim Webb. The action was in part a response to jests by public officials that it was unimpressive for thousands of people of faith turnout on a Sunday.  On this night, we set the record straight - VOICE is a new power in Northern Virginia to be reckoned with - and won major commitments from VA officials to address 200 cases of delayed immigration applications of members from Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center and St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

VOICE organized and won $25,000 annually from Fairfax County to expand low-income adult dental services at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic and to preserve housing funding at 2009 levels in the FY 2010 budget. It was a significant achievement to get new money for social services in a recession.

In October 2008, after 4 years of groundwork, 2,400 newly-minted VOICE leaders from 51 institutions across Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William Counties came together to found VOICE at First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dumfries, VA.  VOICE leaders announced their mission “ to usher in A New Dominion – one of justice and political participation” and inaugural agenda of fighting for Affordable Housing for the Low Income and Homelessness,  Immigrant Rights , and Access to Health Care/Dental Care.
